About VolumeSized
VolumeSized is a small independent tool. It shows containers and loads at true scale next to a person, so you can tell what a size really means before you rent a dumpster, book a moving truck or order a load of mulch.
Where the sizes come from
- Dumpsters are drawn at a common 7.5 ft width and 14 to 22 ft length, with the height that gives the nominal volume. Real roll-off dumpsters vary by hauler, so ask yours for exact dimensions.
- Moving trucks show the cargo box only. Rental companies often quote extra cubic feet for the space over the cab.
- Shipping containers use standard interior dimensions for 20 ft, 40 ft and 40 ft high cube boxes.
- Pickup beds use common full-size bed lengths and ignore the wheel wells.
- Items use typical sizes: a medium moving box 18 x 18 x 16 in, a full 42 gallon contractor bag, an 84 in three-seat sofa, a queen mattress 60 x 80 x 10 in, a 36 in refrigerator and a 27 in washing machine.
The person is 5 ft 9 in. Counts assume tight packing with no wasted space, so treat them as an upper limit.
